One-day trips along Štrekna

Panoramic Views of the Mislinja Valley

Length: 12 km
Duration: 1 day

In Slovenj Gradec, turn off Štrekna at the railway bridge and ascend a 5 km long paved path to Rahtelov Peak, which is about 230 meters of elevation gain. From here, enjoy a beautiful view of the Mislinja Valley, Pohorje, Graška and Uršlja Gora. Refreshments are available at a nearby inn.

Prežihovina and Šance

Length: 20 km
Duration: 1 day

In the village of Bukovska Vas, a side road takes you through Koroški Selovec to Sele, from where the route continues toward the foothills of Uršlja Gora and Kotlje, where the homestead of Prežihov Voranc – Lovro Kuhar – is located. Here, you can visit the traditional ‘bajta’ (cottage) and learn about the inspirations behind his literary masterpieces. After the visit, we recommend a walk to the nearby anti-Turkish trenches – Šance, which also gave their name to the surrounding settlement.

Saint Jurij

Length: 8 km
Duration: 1 day

In Šmartno near Slovenj Gradec, turn off towards Pohorje, then follow the path all the way to the top of the hill, where the Church of Saint George awaits you. Inside, it hides a unique secret – glazed graves that are illuminated and revealed beneath your feet. You can learn about the history of the church’s development, and we also recommend visiting nearby tourist farms for a tasty snack or lunch.
