Dravograd

The meeting point of valleys, history, and nature

Stroll through the Baroque Bukovje Manor, discover the historic village of Libeliče, explore the mysterious ruins of ancient castles, or walk along thematic hiking trails. For family adventures, there is the educational and experiential “Boberček” trail, while nature lovers can enjoy Dravograd Lake, home to many bird species.

A Unique Confluence of Three Valleys

Dravograd is located at the unique meeting point of three valleys – Mežica, Mislinja, and Upper Drava. From its old market town center beneath the former castle, with a customs house and a ferry port on the Drava River, it developed into an important railway hub and modern settlement, divided by the Drava River into left and right banks.

Landmarks of Dravograd – Where Past Meets Present

Dravograd is rich in historical landmarks. Among the most notable are the Romanesque Church of St. Vitus in the town center, the ossuary in Libeliče, one of the most important in Slovenia, and the Baroque Bukovje Manor, the town today serves as a cultural center and houses a museum collection about Nazi atrocities in the preserved Gestapo prisons.

Nature and Experiences for All Generations

For families, the educational adventure trail “Boberček” is a perfect choice, where children learn about nature through play. A special experience is also offered by the Dravograd Lake Ornithological Reserve, which provides shelter to over 150 bird species. By the lake, you can visit the natural history collection at the House of the Koroška Fishing Association, showcasing the wildlife of the Drava, Meža, and Mislinja rivers.

Outdoor Activities – Hiking, Cycling, Skiing

Dravograd offers a wide network of hiking, thematic, and recreational trails suitable for hikers, cyclists, and curious explorers. History enthusiasts will be fascinated by the ruins of the old Dravograd and Pukštajn castles.
For cycling enthusiasts, the popular Drava Cycling Trail and Štrekna route, an attractive path along the former railway line, pass through Dravograd. In winter, the Bukovnik ski resort above Šentjanž is a favorite spot, ideal for family skiing on a smaller slope.

Culture and Heritage in Dravograd

Culture lovers will find true treasures in Dravograd: the Black Kitchen in Libeliče, a collection of farming tools that tell stories of life through the four seasons, a plebiscite exhibit about the historic annexation of Libeliče to its motherland, and preserved Gestapo prisons that bear witness to the harrowing events of World War II.

Dravograd is a place where nature and history accompany you at every step—perfect for family outings, active holidays, and cultural explorations.
