The Museum at Velenje Castle

The Museum at Velenje Castle offers visitors thirteen permanent museum and gallery exhibitions, along with engaging temporary displays.

Visitors are captivated by collections that take them through local history – Between Romanesque and Baroque, The City Called a Miracle, The Old Shop and Tavern, The Šaleška Valley 1941–1945, Photography Master Volbenk Pajk, and others. Especially noteworthy is the African Collection of František Foit, one of the three most important African collections in Slovenia, as well as the collections of three-million-year-old mastodon remains and contemporary Slovenian art.

The House of Minerals

The House of Minerals presents a geological collection of minerals from around the world and an extensive collection from Slovenia. Today, the museum displays over 20,000 different mineral specimens from the private collection of collector and connoisseur Jože Rihtar. The exhibition also includes a geological display of precious and semi-precious (decorative) stones, drawing visitors into a unique world of colors, shapes, and energies.

The Leather Industry Museum in Slovenia

The Leather Industry Museum in Slovenia in Šoštanj tells the story of tanners, industrialists, and former life in the Šaleška Valley in a welcoming setting. Located in the former workers’ bathhouse of the Šoštanj Leather Factory, the museum features two permanent exhibitions: Tanning in Šoštanj, which offers a chronological overview of over 200 years of tanning tradition, and Industrial Processing of Hides into Leather, showcasing the most important machines and equipment used in leather production.
